On the occasion of the 148th birth anniversary of social reformer Thanthai Periyar, Tamil Nadu Leader of the Opposition and DMK Youth Wing Secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin joined senior party leaders and General Secretary Duraimurugan in garlanding Periyar's statue on Anna Salai, Chennai. The annual observance honors the foundational philosopher of the Self-Respect Movement whose egalitarian principles shaped modern Tamil Nadu's social architecture. Addressing party workers and citizens, Udhayanidhi emphasized that Periyar's rationalist doctrine remains the most potent shield against regressive social hierarchies and caste-based discrimination. He reiterated the DMK's resolve to translate Periyar's radical vision of women's emancipation, scientific temper, and universal equality into everyday political struggle and constitutional defense.
